I captured this warm from a magnolia tree in Felicia Thompson’s backyard over in Blodgett Mills. She posted the swarm on Facebook and I responded. It was a pretty easy capture. I shook the bees into a deep brew box and the bees followed the queen right in there within an hour. I brought them home and added them to the AP, with an entrance reducer and entrance feeder with one-to-one sugar syrup. The deep brew box has three frames of drawn comb and seven frames of man’s lake deep foundation.

These are bees that have been bred for over 35 years to survive the northern winters well, and to produce honey while staying non-aggressive. I’m hoping that they exhibit some Varroa mite resistance as well.
