Frequently Asked Questions
What is Beehiveful?
Beehiveful is a daily beekeeping advisor that combines AI-powered local weather forecasts, bloom calendars, and hive-management tools to help beekeepers make better decisions for their colonies. Built for hobbyist and commercial beekeepers — we're launched in the United States with Canada, United Kingdom, and Australia now supported for signup.
What does Beehiveful not do?
Beehiveful is not a weather app, not a minute-cast, and not a live radar or satellite tracker, at least not yet. We are more of a rough guide for the day ahead, the beekeeping version of, if the rock is wet, it's raining; if the rock is rolling, it's windy. We do our best to give you a useful and accurate daily forecast, but if your briefing says rain later and the sky stays clear all day, blame the weatherman, not us.
Is Beehiveful free?
Yes. The free tier gives you a daily forecast for your postal code, up to 5 hives, the full plant gallery, learning content, community access, and BeeAI chat (20 questions per day). No credit card required.
What do I get with Pro?
Pro unlocks unlimited hives and apiaries, all alert types (wind, heat, pollen, nectar flow, freeze), advanced inspection fields (mite counts and hive weight), BeeAI unlimited with personalized advice that knows your hives, voice-transcribe inspections (web + mobile), push notifications on weather alerts, auto-publish bloom sightings, a public profile with social handles, and a Pro badge on community posts. Pro is $6/month or $60/year (2 months free), plus applicable tax.
What is a Founding Member?
Founding Members pay $99 once, plus applicable tax, and get lifetime Pro access — no recurring billing, ever. They also receive a permanent Founding Member badge on every community post. Limited to 100 seats.
How does the daily forecast work?
Every morning, Beehiveful's AI analyzes weather data for your postal code — temperature, wind, precipitation, humidity — and cross-references it with local bloom timing and your hive data (if you're Pro). It produces a plain-English advisory telling you whether to inspect, feed, treat, or leave your bees alone today.
Which countries are supported?
We're launched in the United States (NWS weather + USDA hardiness zones), with signup now open for Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia. International users get Open-Meteo forecasts and AI-generated local bloom data; hardiness zone references are hidden for regions where USDA zones don't apply. More countries will open as we validate the data quality in each.
How do I track my hives?
Create an apiary (your bee yard location), add hives, and log inspections. Each inspection records queen status, population, temperament, pests, treatments, and notes. Your inspection history feeds BeeAI's personalized advice.
What are cells, frames, boxes, and hives in my profile?
Cells are Beehiveful's activity points — earn them by logging inspections, posting in the community, answering questions, and using the app. Cells stack into a virtual apiary the same way honey does in real life:
Cells → frames → boxes → hives. A brood frame holds 7,000 cells; a super frame holds 5,000. Ten frames fill one box. Two brood boxes on the bottom plus two supers on top complete one virtual hive (240,000 cells total). Once you finish a hive you start the next one automatically. The profile page shows exactly where you are — which frame you're filling, which box is active, and how many hives you've completed.
How do I earn cells from bloom sightings?
Snap a photo of a flowering plant near your hives, confirm the identification, and submit. The reward depends on how valuable the plant is to honey bees:
🌼 Low value (low nectar AND low pollen) — 10 cells. Still useful data; we want to know what's blooming, even if it's just filler.
🌻 Medium value (medium on either nectar or pollen) — 50 cells.
🌺 High value (high nectar AND high pollen) — 150 cells. The 100-cell tier reward plus a 50-cell freebie bonus for finding a great bee plant.
Two guards keep the rewards honest: you can't report the same plant twice within 30 days (same-plant duplicates don't add to the local bloom signal), and the daily identification limit (10/day for free, 50/day for Pro) is a soft reminder — submissions past it still go through and still earn cells.
What are the skill-tier badges?
Your tier badge matches what you've actually built, not just your cell count.
🐣 New-bee — just signed up (0 cells).
🐝 Buzzing Beginner — earned your first 1,000 cells.
📦 Brood Builder — filled a full brood box (70,000 cells).
🏠 Hive Founder — completed your first hive (240,000 cells).
🍯 Honey Keeper — 3 hives complete (720,000 cells).
👑 Queen's Court — 7 hives complete (1.68M cells).
🏆 Hive Hero — 10 hives complete (2.4M cells).
Higher tiers also unlock bigger daily quotas for posts and replies in the community.
Is my data private?
Yes. We don't sell your data, we don't run third-party ad trackers, and your hive records are visible only to you. Community posts use a privacy-safe display name (first name + last initial) — never your full name or email. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Pro subscriptions can be cancelled at any time from your profile's billing section. You keep Pro access until the end of your current billing period. Founding Members have lifetime access and are never billed again.
Is there a mobile app?
Yes. Beehiveful Mobile is available for Android from Google Play at /mobile, and iOS is coming soon. The app lets you sign in with your same account, manage apiaries and hives, log inspections, use voice inspection, identify bloom photos, receive push notifications, and check forecasts and bloom calendars from the yard. The Beehiveful web app is also fully responsive and works great on any mobile browser.
