Provides an important late-season source of nectar and pollen for honey bees when few other plants are blooming. Flowers in branched, plume-like clusters that attract foragers over several weeks in late summer and fall. Leaves release a distinctive anise scent when crushed and the plant forms non-aggressive clumps in dry to medium well-drained soils.
