Scotch Broom

Cytisus scoparius
In the United States: Invasive · also called Scots broom, common broom
Listed as invasive. Check local regulations — several jurisdictions restrict planting.

Honeybees and bumblebees visit the bright yellow pea-like flowers for nectar and pollen; the explosive pollination mechanism dusts visiting bees with pollen upon tripping the keel. Peak bloom occurs in late spring on old wood. This nitrogen-fixing deciduous shrub prefers well-drained sandy or loamy soils and full sun.
