A tall wetland perennial producing dense spikes of purple-magenta flowers that supply nectar and pollen to honeybees and other long-tongued bees throughout summer. Bloom is prolonged and progressive up the spikes in moist to wet soils. Individual plants form large clumps from a persistent rootstock.
