Prairie Wild Onion
Allium stellatum
In the United States:
Native
· also called autumn onion, glade onion, cliff onion
Bees visit the starry pink umbels for nectar with high sugar concentration and for pollen; the plant supports foraging without typically yielding surplus honey. Peak bloom occurs in mid to late summer on leafless scapes above grass-like foliage that often dies back by flowering time. It is a low-maintenance bulbous perennial tolerant of drought, deer browsing, and poor rocky soils, with all parts emitting an onion scent.
