Rhizomatous perennial of wetlands and moist acidic soils that produces large showy flowers visited primarily by bees for pollen with limited nectar reward. Bloom occurs in spring over a relatively short period. Requires consistently moist to wet conditions and full sun for best performance; spreads by rhizomes to form colonies.
