Late-summer to fall blooming perennial sunflower that supplies nectar and pollen to honeybees and other bees during a period when many other resources decline. Rhizomatous growth allows colony formation but can lead to aggressive spreading in gardens or restorations. Thrives in dry to medium well-drained soils in open or edge habitats.
