Low evergreen shrub of acidic bogs and wetlands producing clusters of small pink or white bell-shaped flowers in late spring to early summer. Visited by honeybees and bumblebees for nectar; supports early-season foraging but not a major surplus honey source. Requires consistently moist, lime-free acidic soil and does not tolerate heat or drying out.
