Insulation
Is anyone running an insulated top cover year round? There is no ventilation in a tree, so it should work in a hive, right?

Hey Martin! During the winter I use telescoping covers but the rest of the time I use custom gable roof covers. They let me use 32oz glass jars as feeders.

I use layens condensing hive with insulated tops and hives. No ventilation except the entrance.

I only started keeping bees this spring, and while I'm not using an insulated cover, I have jar feeder sitting on top of the inner cover and empty super with the telescoping lid on top of that. The bees seem to be keeping cool enough I'm not seeing much bearding.
